War in Ukraine: Fighting rages around strategic Snake Island
From the first day of the conflict in Ukraine, February 24, 2022, the Russians attacked the strategic “Snake Island” in the Black Sea to seize it. This gave rise to this highly publicized episode by Kiev, during which Ukrainian coastguards had radioed the Russian cruiser Moskva, which has since sunk, to go “fuck” rather than surrender. From the outset, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy hailed the “heroic” death of these soldiers who “defended to the end” this small island against the Russians. The Ukrainian Navy later announced that these soldiers had been taken prisoner and were being held in Crimea. The stamp issued on April 12, 2022 depicts a Ukrainian border guard from “Serpent Island“(Black Sea) giving the middle finger to the Russian cruiser “Moskva“ asking Ukrainian soldiers stationed on the island to surrender under worth being bombarded.
