80th anniversary of the Normandy landings - Juno Beach, Canadian sector landing beach
On June 6, 1944, the Canadians of the 3rd Infantry Division and the 2nd Armored Brigade were tasked with establishing a beachhead on the beach codenamed Juno. The objectives of the 3rd Division were to cut the Caen-Bayeux road axis, capture the Caen-Carpiquet airfield and establish the junction with the British beaches of Gold Beach and Sword Beach.
