80th anniversary of the Normandy landings - “Pegasus Bridge” objective for the 177 Frenchmen of the "Commando Kieffer"
On June 6, 1944, the Allies launched Operation Overlord and landed 175,000 soldiers in Normandy. Among this human tide which rushed onto the Normandy beaches, 177 French people landed on the beach of Sword Beach. It was the Commando Kieffer (1st Battalion of Fusiliers Marins Commando) whose final objective was to join the British airborne troops of Major Howard (British 6th Airborne, Company D) at Pegasus Bridge.
