1976: Valéry Giscard d´Estaing’s tribute to Kennedy
As part of the Bicentennial of American Independence ceremonies, it is aboard the Concorde that President Valéry Giscard d'Estaing joins the United States for a six-day state visit. On May 17, 1976, it landed in Washington after a flight of only 3.55 hours, at the same time inaugurating with great fanfare the supersonic Concorde Paris-Washington line.
Nicknamed "the Kennedy à la française", the French president, welcomed at the White House by President Gerald Ford, will not forget to pay tribute to his mentor, assassinated on November 22, 1963 in Dallas, whom he had met in 1962 and which had inspired his own presidential campaign.
