Two postage stamps in tribute to the Abbé Pierre (1912-2007)
January 22, 2010: Today, La Poste française issued two postage stamps bearing the image of the founder of Emmaüs. Both figurines are illustrated with the same portrait of Abbé Pierre, made by Claude Andréotto. The first version, printed on gummed paper, is available to the general public in all post offices, while the second version, printed on adhesive sheets, is reserved for businesses via the online store dedicated to them.
The “First Day of Issue” advance sale took place simultaneously in Lyon, Henri Grouès’ birthplace, in Paris, headquarters of the Emmaüs Foundation, and in Esteville, where Abbé Pierre is now buried. Each city was given a special cancellation.
