Main themes of the plenary session of the European Parliament, from 20 to 23 january 2025 in Strasbourg (France)

Polish EU Council Presidency/Donald Tusk. On Wednesday, MEPs will discuss the programme of Poland’s six-month Council Presidency, which started on 1 January, with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

Enforcing EU digital rules to protect democracy. On Tuesday, MEPs will discuss the need to enforce the Digital Services Act (DSA) and tackle the spread of illegal content, online disinformation, and other societal risks to safeguard European democracy from foreign interference and algorithmic manipulation.

Trump presidency/EU-US relations. On Tuesday, MEPs will discuss the geopolitical and economic implications for EU-US relations of the new Trump administration : support for Ukraine, relations with Russia, China, the Middle East, climate change, trade and defense.

December European Council. On Wednesday, MEPs will assess the results of the 19 December EU summit, which took stock of the latest events in Ukraine and the Middle East, with European Council President António Costa and Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

Ceasefire agreement in Gaza. MEPs will discuss on Monday the ceasefire in Gaza, the need to release hostages and end the humanitarian crisis, and ways to work towards a two-state solution.

Russian disinformation on Ukraine. On Thursday, MEPs will vote on a resolution about Russia’s manipulation of history and its use of false narratives to justify its war of aggression against Ukraine, concluding a plenary debate held in December 2024.
